Every artist seeks to develop their craft and create a remarkable body of work, which is unique and easily identifiable. Suzette Cassia Henry also known as "DeKushite, Shoshannah, Belladonna, Black Florence Nightingale" is a contemporary artist born Oct 28, 1974 to Reggae royalty Aston "Milton" Henry and Nora Henry in Kingston, Jamaica. At the tender age of five she moved to the States, and grew up in the city of White Plains, an affluent suburban county just north of New York City. Shoshannah attributes her unique perspective on life as being greatly influenced by her heritage and early childhood spent both in Jamaica and New York. Her love of music, art, design, and fashion started at the age of 3, creating always helped to overcome any adversity she experienced in her personal life. Her exclusive point of view comes from some of the best establishments and leading companies in the industry. DeKushite meaning "of the land of Kush" is the inspiration which sprung forth from the desire to empower and honor the ancient of ways in our rich heritage of African, East Indian Caribbean, and Asian connected roots, culture, and livity for the modern individual. As a young single mother Shoshannah never stop pursuing her dreams of becoming a recording artist, actress, and designer. With the encouragement and support of family and friends in 1995. She enrolled in the Fashion design program at one of the top schools in the industry FIT (Fashion Institute Of Technology). Then went on to study cosmetology at another one of New York's leading schools Jon Louis School of Beauty. However, after a number of years of working for and with some of the industry's leading companies, such as Aldo Shoes, BCBG Max Azria, The Bromley Group, and Def Jam in New York City. She relocated to Connecticut where she immersed herself in a Theater Arts program at HousatonicCommunity College. Here she earned an AA degree in Theater Arts and went on to secure a position as an instructor for MACH (Music and Arts Center for Humanities). Shoshannah spent five years working with young adults and special needs children facilitating classes in the greater New Haven, Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Stamford School districts, becoming one of the few certified Wolf Trap & Music Together teaching artists in the State of Connecticut. All while continuing her studies in fashion merchandising at the university of Bridgeport, performing with her musical group Left Field Rhythms, recording, running the family restaurant, and designing for a small fashion business she started with her sister called Cassia & Jones. Shoshannah worked in the industry for over 20 years lending her gifts and talents to other companies, artists and their projects. Yet even after working in these mediums for years she suddenly and unexpectedly made a shift. In 2007 she relocated to South Florida and attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale pursuing a BA in Fashion Merchandising. Like any artist making a shift it brings a certain level of unease. It was during her time working with Nordstrom's as their designer handbag specialist , yet again she made another shift. In 2009 she enrolled in a health and wellness program at the Florida College of Natural Health for skincare and electrolysis. She is a licensed esthetician currently offering her services in the senior care business.
